Parent Bulletin – October 26, 2023

Farewell

We would like to say thank you and goodbye to Ms. Marlene Jack for all of her support at QE for the last couple of months as interim principal. She has supported our school during this very busy time and we wish her all the best with her continued retirement. Her last day at QE will be November 1st. We will miss you Ms. Jack!

Pumpkin Run – Oct. 27

Students from K-4 will be participating in the Pumpkin Run on October 27th. The route remains the same as the Terry Fox Run. Come cheer your child on and join in the fun!

Times for each grades’ run are listed below:

9:30 Kindergarten                            11:00 Grade 1/2                              11:45 Grade 3/4

Eagle Acres Dairy Farm in Fort Langley kindly donated the pumpkins of which we are very appreciative. After the run in the afternoon, classes are asked to provide the names of two lucky draw winners who will venture into the Garden Pumpkin Patch and select the pumpkin of their choice.

Halloween Costumes – Oct. 31

As Halloween approaches and people prepare their costumes, we wanted to provide you with a few quick reminders about safety and appropriate costumes at school.

  • No full face masks are permitted
  • We celebrate diversity and inclusion in New Westminster Schools. Please consider whether costumes violate rights or appropriates identities
  • No replica weapons are allowed on school property

Parking – Drop off and Pick up

Thank you to the QE families for adjusting schedules and developing routines that help our community avoid congestion around our school parking lot as well as specific areas around Salter Street.

Drop off parking is limited in front of the school, and this is purposeful. We do not want more cars in front of the school, and we ask that you leave early, park further away on Salter or other side streets and walk the short distance to your class lineups each day.

School Roundabout and Staff Parking Lot – Parents are welcome to use the roundabout and drop off older students on the curb side, but we ask that you do not park in the staff lot at drop off and pick up times unless using the handicapped zone. There may be available spots, but these are needed for our staff, especially as our school is growing in size

Please be reminded that there is a clearly posted NO STOPPING zone at the junction of Carter and Salter Street. This is our most challenging area, as the road narrows here and any vehicles parked in the no stopping zone impedes two-way traffic. This results in delays and unsafe conditions for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Bell Schedule

Please make note that we are updating our morning bell routine. We will no longer have a welcome bell at 8:45 am. We will only have one bell at 8:50. Please make sure to be ready to enter the school at the 8:50 bell once this change occurs. The change will happen early November.
