Principal’s Message – October 7th

Dear Queen Elizabeth School Community,

We have had a busy September! While the weather certainly says otherwise, we head into October with all the typical Fall activities we look forward to. Please see the following important information and updates and let us know if you have any questions.

Student and Family Affordability Fund

On September 27th you received a letter from Superintendent Karim Hachlaf outlining the district’s plan for allocation of the Student and Family Affordability fund, announced by the Provincial Government at the beginning of this school year. In consultation with our Parent Advisory Council, our School Site plan for distribution of the funds allocated to Queen Elizabeth is as follows:

Category 1 (Universal Funds) – Each family at Queen Elizabeth will receive $30 per student. This will come in the form of a Gift Card to Walmart and be distributed to all families at our upcoming Family Conferences on October 19th and 20th. Any cards not picked up at the conferences will be available for caregiver pick up at the office the following week.

Category 2 (Nutrition Funds) are dispersed to support the New Westminster School’s Food Program directly.

Category 3 (Local Customized Support Funds) will be distributed directly to our neediest families. We have been actively supporting many of our families every year and our ability to do so is significantly enhanced through the one-time affordability fund provided this year. We are reaching out to families directly to continue and enhance this support.

Should you be experiencing financial hardship at this time, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at pmanville@sd40.bc.ca.

Family Conferences

Wednesday, October 19th and Thursday, October 20th we will be holding Family Conferences. Students are dismissed at 12:24 PM on both days to facilitate these meetings. Teachers will reach out to families directly to schedule your family conference and provide any necessary details for your participation.

“Fresh to You” School Garden Fundraiser

We are fundraising for our school garden! Our plan is to enhance the existing garden space adjacent to our Kindergarten Playground and develop the area behind our modular buildings to increase the space available for staff and students to engage in outside learning activities.

To support this initiative we are holding a Fresh Produce Fundraiser. Families can order $25 or $30 bundles of produce through School Cash Online (Onions, Carrots, Apples, Potatoes, Beets, Shallots, Parsnips) and the school receives 40% of the sale. The order deadline is 4:00 PM October 20th. If you have any questions please reach out directly to our amazing Gardening Lead Ms. Moizumi at mmoizumi@sd40.bc.ca
