Principal’s Message – May 12th

Dear Queen Elizabeth School Community,

Well the sun and heat has certainly arrived! We are all enjoying the additional outside time. Please help keep our students safe sending them to school with water bottles, hats, and sunglasses if they wish as the weather is expected to get into the 30s next week.

Please note the following reminders, updates, and Calendar Events to year’s end.

Portables Arriving

Work has begun near the Roma Hall parking lot to make space and prepare for 2 additional portables next year. Our growing enrolment will necessitate the addition of at least one more division taking us to 24 divisions next year, with a projected school population of over 500.

Salter Street Traffic

Parents are reminded to make a greater effort to observe road signs and traffic laws at our busiest times (pick up and drop off), particularly as our school community continues to grow. Of ongoing concern is parking in the NO STOPPING zones where Carter and Salter connect, U TURNS on Salter and Parking in our Staff Lot (drop off and pick up in the roundabout area is ok) . Please take the extra 5 minutes, park further down Salter in either direction, and walk in to pick up your children. Go around the block to travel in the direction you want and do not make U Turns in the middle of the road. We need to keep traffic moving through our roundabout and along Salter and these ongoing poor driving behaviours cause congestion and make the roads unsafe for pedestrians. As much as I love saying hello to you and your children at these times, I do not enjoy providing these reminders when signs are present and road rules are clear. Please make more of an effort, for your children’s sake, to make our streets safer.

Mayor’s Food Bank Challenge

Mayor Patrick Johnstone is participating in the third annual Mayors’ Food Bank Challenge in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, and he needs the Queen Elizabeth School Community’s help!

Save the Date! A group of Grade 4 Leadership Students will be supporting the Mayors’ cause organizing a Freezie Sale on Friday, May 26th at lunch – stay tuned for further reminders and details on that! – We are asking students to bring a loonie or a toonie to school, on Friday, May 26th for the opportunity to purchase a freezie at lunch breaks and see how much more we can raise towards our goal of $500 and beyond! Students might even get a chance to meet the Honourable Mayor himself!

In the meantime parents, please consider supporting this important initiative and help us reach our fundraising goal. You can follow this link https://events.foodbank.bc.ca/fundraiser/queenelizabeth to our Fundraising Page and make a donation to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Thanks for the support!

Plant Fundraiser

A huge thank you to our entire community and particularly the work of PAC volunteers for another successful Spring Plant Fundraiser. Plants orders are available for pick up today after school. Enjoy your new plants – we so appreciate the support!
