Principal’s Message – June 8th
Dear Queen Elizabeth School Community,
Year end is upon us! Please read the following important information for upcoming important dates, and school and community events.
Sports Day – Friday, June 10th
A reminder of our upcoming Sports Day this Friday, June 10th! Families are encouraged to attend and join in the fun for this year’s Pirate themed event! Our event will run Rain or Shine at Ryall Park field across Salter, where the baseball diamonds are. This year our Sports Day Teacher Team – Ms Rowe, Ms Yee and Ms Blakeway – will be setting up and running our stations with the help from our classroom teachers and a team of Grade 8 students from QMS.
Please pay close attention to the schedule below to ensure you do not miss your child’s scheduled time:
9:20 AM – Kindergarten and Grade 1 – Following morning drop off parents that wish to join us are asked to make their way to the Ryall Park field across Salter, classes will take attendance and get organized to arrive as soon as they can. We are aiming for a 9:20 AM start.
10:15 – 10:45 AM – Recess Break
11:00 AM – Grade 2, 3 and 4 – Part 1 – Parents should arrive directly to Ryall Park Field
12:25 – 1:10 PM – Lunch Break
1:30 – 2:45 PM – Grade 2, 3, and 4 – Part 2 – Parents should arrive directly to Ryall Park Field
* We are expecting warm temperatures but also rain – you are encouraged to bring umbrellas!
Grade 4 Graduation Ceremony – Thursday, June 16th @ 10:00/10:45/11:30 AM
We will hold three separate Graduation events on Thursday, June 16 and parents are encouraged to attend. Please pay careful attention to the schedule below so you arrive on time for your child’s ceremony.
10:00 – 10: 45 AM – Division 1, Mr Dominguez
10:45 – 11:30 AM – Division 2, Mr Dunning
11:30 – 12:15 PM – Division 3, Ms Minto
Parents are asked to arrive to the school before the ceremony and be ready to be welcomed into the gym just before your child’s ceremony start time. Parents will enter first and be seated at the rear of our gymnasium, students will enter promptly at the start time and each ceremony will take approximately 30 minutes.
Fire Truck Day! – Monday, June 20th
Our local Fire Department will bring a pumper truck in the afternoon of June 20th and create our very own QE “spray park” in the roundabout at the front of the school! Teachers will communicate directly with families about when their classes scheduled time will be and what to make sure you bring. (Towels, bathing suits, water shoes/sandals). All of our Kindergarten classes will be scheduled at the end of the day.
Grade 4 Year End Pizza Party and Slide Show – Friday, June 24th
Friday, June 24th we will hold a year end pizza party graciously supported by our Parents Advisory Council. Students will watch a year end slide show in the gym around Noon and then be treated to a pizza lunch to celebrate their final days at Queen Elizabeth!
Upcoming Community Events!
Queensborough Children’s Festival – Saturday, June 11th
From the Queensborough Special Programs Committee …
“Please join us on June 11th from 11am to 2pm for the Queensborough Children’s Festival presented by the Queensborough Special Planning Committee! Bring a picnic blanket to the Queensborough Community Centre outdoor stage and field for an afternoon of fun-filled entertainment and activities! Please see the linked flyer for more details”.
Nagar Kirtan (Sikh Parade)
New Westminster will be having its 15th Annual Nagar Kirtan (Sikh Parade) on Sunday, June 26th 2022 from 9:30 to 5:30 PM. The festivities will consist of a 1 hour parade from 347 Wood Street to 833 Salter Street, and there will be activities on the Queensborough Middle School Field from 11AM to 4PM. Please watch for road closures and no parking along the parade route for the duration of the event.
