Nut Awareness

QE is a Nut Aware school as we have many students and staff with life threatening allergies to nuts. Please do not pack lunches that contain nuts (peanuts, hazelnuts, etc). These foods, even in trace amounts, may cause a severe reaction (anaphylaxis) that can lead to death. The following symptoms may occur: hives, difficulty breathing, vomiting and diarrhea, swelling of the lips, mouth, and throat, itching and sneezing, loss of consciousness, and death due to shock. Even touching contaminated surfaces may cause a reaction.

Here are a few suggestions for you as parents:

· Never take food allergies lightly; they can be serious and life-threatening.

· Ask your child’s friends what they are allergic to and help them to avoid it.

· Tell your child, “DO NOT SHARE FOOD.”

· Frequent hand washing reduces the spread of viruses during the school year and helps protect food allergic students. Wash hands thoroughly after eating. Similarly, encourage good hygiene before and after-school. If your child had peanut butter for breakfast please have them wash their hands. Wash hands and surfaces before handling books, computers or school equipment.

· Tell your child to get help from an adult immediately if a schoolmate has a reaction.

· Check the bottom of the ingredient label to see if it may contain peanut/nut products or was processed in a peanut/nut factory.

· PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY PRODUCTS WITH PEANUTS/TREE NUTS FOR SNACKS or LUNCH. This includes cakes, cupcakes and/or treats that are going to the classroom for birthdays or parties.

Pile Driving – Delay

Piles will arrive once the lockout and contract dispute at the terminals has been resolved. There will be delays in transport as a result.

Fencing and Traffic

In collaboration with the city transportation, we have a solid plan to ensure the safety of students and families during the construction. The city lane will be the delivery access point for all construction vehicles so the fencing on both the school and park are integral parts of the plan for student safety both during school hours and after school hours.

Construction vehicles will not be entering our school area during high traffic times (e.g. 8:30 – 9:00 and 3:00 – 3:30). The traffic plan is to help support the families with drop off and pick up so we do not increase congestion around our school.

We will see periods where we have less construction vehicles and periods where we have very high volumes (eg. delivery of concrete). During these high-volume periods, we will keep families up to date and aware so they understand that large vehicles will be in our neighbourhoods and some traffic disruption may occur
