Parent Bulletin – June 27, 2024 – Last Day of School!

Final Day of the 2023/2024 School Year!

As we head into the final day of the school year, I wanted to thank our school community for all the support you have given our school and staff during this very busy year. There were unexpected changes and transitions in the first few months for our community, but the support and patience from our amazing parents and students was felt among all of our staff. It has been such an incredibly rewarding year getting to know all of our students, staff and parents and I am very excited for next year and all the new school adventures in 2024/2025.

I would like to wish our Grade 4s all the best as they move along to middle school! It is a very exciting time in your schooling journey. Best wishes to all of our families and students who are moving on …. QE will miss you!

Thank you to our PAC for the amazing year of fundraising and supporting QE! We would like to thank Tabitha Guichon for all of your many years supporting our school as the PAC Chair. We were grateful to have you in our community and appreciate all of your knowledge and energy over the last four years.

I would also like to take the time to say some farewells to a few staff members that are moving along from QE. We would like to wish Marlene Furlong a happy retirement! Ms. Furlong was an Education Assistant at QE for the past 7 years. She has worked at many schools across the district in her career supporting students at all grade levels. Best Wishes to Ms. Furlong as we wish you well in your retirement!

We would also like to say a fond farewell to Christine Blakeway who has been one of our Kindergarten teachers for the past 13 years. Ms. Blakeway is taking on a new adventure on Vancouver Island with her family. Best luck to you and your family in this amazing and exciting adventure!

This year we are also saying our good-byes to Sheila Bachra (Secretary), Claire Mun (EA), Jessica Baker (Classroom Teacher), Valerie Cho (Learning Support Teacher) and Mandeep Gill (Evening Custodian). We are thankful for all of you over the last few years in your roles supporting our students at QE. We are happy for you in your new adventures at various schools across the district.

We would also like to say thank you to those staff who stepped into our temporary positions for one year.  Thank you, Fionna Lenahan (Classroom Teacher), Rory Workman (PE and Classroom Teacher), Elizabeth Laman (PE and Classroom Teacher), Bianca Low (Classroom Teacher), Leanne Remmington (EA), Patricia Yanes (EA), Hannah Therrin (EA) and Rachel Aoki (Noon Hour Supervisor).

Best wishes to all of our Grade 4s and staff who are leaving!

Have a wonderful summer break and we will see you again in September!

Digital Device Updates and Policy Changes

In line with Ministerial Order 89, we will be introducing some changes to the use of personal digital devices within our school come September 2024. This is an important step to ensure a focused and effective learning environment for our students.

We understand that you might have questions about this new policy. To help clarify things, a letter was sent out on Tuesday, June 19, explaining the changes and what they mean for our students.

If you did not get a chance to read the letter, please click here to view it on the New Westminster Schools website.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to create the best learning environment for our children. Please see the updated changes in the QE Code of Conduct.
