Parent Bulletin – December 11, 2023

When your child is absent ….

Please make sure to call the office and leave a message or use the link https://queenelizabethschool.ca/report-a-student-absence/ to inform us when your child will be away from school. We have been noticing an increase in the number of families not calling the office and it can become a safety issue. It is very important to inform the office when your child is not attending school.

West Coast Weather

It will be very rare that we have students stay inside at recess and lunch due to inclement weather so please ensure that your children are dressed to be outside every day for a minimum of 1 hour. It will be important to make sure that all students have clothing and outerwear that supports rain and cold weather (raincoats, mittens, warm winter jackets, boots). It is also a very good idea to pack extra socks, and pants for those times when students may need a change of clothes.  We are encouraging families to have your children leave an umbrella at school, as well as extra clothes – students have personal coat hooks and cubbies to keep umbrellas and extra clothes.

Winter Weather – getting prepared

We have had quite a bit of extreme weather patterns over the last few years, so it is important to understand our policies and procedures for inclement weather if schools are to be closed.

Please see the link to the district website regarding inclement weather policies and procedures https://newwestschools.ca/our-schools/snow-events-and-school-closures/

Young Entrepreneurs

Our Grade 4 students have been working very hard to create their small businesses for Young Entrepreneurs and next week they will be holding a Show to sell their products!

Each Show will run from 1:00-3:30 pm in the gym. Our side gym door will be open to the community from 3:00-3:30 pm on both days.  We invite all students, families, and staff members to come and support the students.

Please see the show schedule below:

  • Tuesday, December 19 – Div. 1 (Dominguez) & Div. 4 (Elliott)
  • Wednesday, December 20 – Div. 2 (Madlambayan) & Div. 3 (Minto)

The students have created a variety of products to sell (slime, bookmarks, Christmas decorations, etc.). Prices range from $2 to $5. Please bring cash/change. Part of the students’ profits will be donated to a charity of their choice.

Music Performances

Our QE Choir will have their annual Winter Choir Concert at the Queensborough Community Center outdoor theatre on Wednesday, December 20th. Mark your calendars for this wonderful community event. Thank you Ms. Mellor for making this event so special and showcasing our student choir!

Each division will also be performing their winter song and dance during their music block over the next 2 weeks. Please look for the email from your classroom teacher to mark your calendar with the time and day they will perform. For those who are unable to attend we will also be sending home a video to each class! Thank you to Ms. Mellor for all of the work around our winter performances!

Jingle Bell Jog and Red/Green Day – Dec. 21

Thank you to the PAC

Thank you to the PAC for organizing the 3 winter fundraisers and our hot lunch days! We are so thankful for all of the hard work and time you put into making these fundraisers happen as they help our classrooms in so many ways.
